There are days when being happy doesn’t come easily. They are part of life. However, you can always find happiness in the little things. Here are some ideas to get you back on track.

  1. Don’t save anything for a special occasion.
Every day is a special one. So go ahead and wear that special underwear and feel like a princess. You feel like dolling up for work? Why don’t you? You don’t need a reason. Your happiness is enough. You want to try that next restaurant and your next anniversary in a couple of months would be perfect for that? I say, the next time you wanna go out, choose that restaurant and treat yourself to a yummy meal.
  2. The secret to having it all is realizing that you already do.
Gratitude lets you enter that world. Gratitude makes whatever you have now enough. And once you realize that you have everything to be happy right there, happiness will come. So take out your journal or open your note pad on your phone, tablet or notebook and write down what you’re grateful for right now.
  3. Happiness is a choice.
Nothing will make you happy until you choose to be happy. No external situation, not another person – though I’m not saying that they won’t make you happy, cause they will. But real, constant happiness is something you can only find within and once you’ve found it, it’s an active choice every day. Make that choice today!
  4. There is no perfect job.
Even your dream job will come with work and situations you won’d enjoy. That’s part of the deal. However, most often you get to do what you love. That job is out there for you, a job you enjoy doing and are passionate about, work that makes you happy. Haven’t found it yet? Start exploring what you’re passionate about and find out!
  5. Spending time with people’s truest friends (that may be your cat, the family dog or your horse).
Unconditional love is what you get from those wonderful companions, who will always listen and love you just the way you are. If you have one of those, appreciate their warmth and presence and know that you’re deeply loved.
  6. Go to the zoo with a kid to see the world through a child’s eyes full of magic and beauty.
I love spending time with children! They allow me to see life through different glasses. Though I try doing that myself as often as I can, I catch myself getting caught up in the day-to-day rush of getting things done. Then I like to recharge ma batteries by spending time with those special little humans.
  7. Watch someone unwrapping a present of yours closely and see how their eyes will light up.
That perfect present, always on a hunt for that, as we love giving it to someone special and watch how they light up with joy and anticipation. It’s a wonderful feeling. For that, you don’t even need to spend money. But you can be very creative. Even a handwritten love letter or a little book of motivation might be exactly what that person needs.
  8. Surprise a person that you love with a small goodie, a card or a visit.
Which leads us to surprises. If there’s no special occasion and the loved one doesn’t expect the attention, it will be that much more enjoyable to watch the surprise and happiness in that person’s eyes. Who knew that giving can make you so incredibly happy?
  9. Help someone in need today.
That person will not only feel better, but helping someone will make you light up as well. Show compassion and that your ripple effect of kindness flows into the lives of many other people you will never know. A great feeling, right?
  10. Laugh as much as you can.
Laugh until your tummy hurts and tears come. Because I promise you, there’s no better way to feel happy than uncontrollable giggles.
