We cannot always be happy and that is also not the expectation! So don’t feel pressured by how happy other people seem to be! You know that everyone is more prone to talk about their positive experience and rather hesitant to share what is not going so well. So don’t compare. Focus on yourself. Focus on how you want to feel. And if you are looking for some hacks to help you get into a good mood again, here are some that you can try:

  1. Try something new every day
Variety is what makes life interesting. And doing something for the very first time is an incredibly special experience that will stay for you the rest of your life if you are able to take something away from it. Those don’t have to be huge experiences, but little things, such as talking to a stranger, already do the trick. A habit is formed in about 4 weeks to a month time. So pledge to do this for the next 30 days and you never know, doors might be opened that you never knew you could or wanted to go through!
  2. Giving back
One selfless act every single day is sure to bring joy to your day! Do it just because the light you shed and the love you are able to give to another person will light them up in ways you would have never thought possible. If you are more of an introvert you can also help from the comfort of your home through GoFundMe. However, if you want to invest time instead of money, I encourage you to make a local search, as there is always an organization in need of a helping hand. Who knows, this might also open you up to a new world of experiences and friends!
  3. Dedicate an hour per day to something that you are passionate about
I promise, this one will do wonders! What do you love to do? What are you passionate about? What lights you up with joy while doing it? This can really be anything! It can be reading a chapter in a book, it can be taking a bubble bath. It can be spending time with your favorite person and it can vary on a day-to-day basis. Just make sure to carve an hour out every day to do something that truly brings you joy to help you recharge your batteries.
  4. Sprinkle kindness everywhere you go
Kindness and compassion is the one thing that I’d love to see more of in this world. Usually it is quite easy to be kind. Even a simple Thank You goes a very long way. But staying kind in a challenging situation when someone might even be rude to you can be challenging. Also we don’t want to be or feel like push overs. However, the way people act is almost never directed towards you, but is rather a reflection of how they feel about themselves. So be as compassionate as you possibly can. Be kind. Because being kind to others is going to put you in such a great state of mind.
  5. Pay attention so you don’t miss the life happening around you
Every experience that you have made in your life, everything that you have gone through, may that be the good but also bad times, have led you to this moment in your life. Those experiences are precious and important. But how much were you actually present. Do you pay attention to yourself to see how often you just are? Right now really is the only moment that is guaranteed. Life happens right now, as as you are reading this. So I encourage you to become more conscious and be more in the now to be able to enjoy the beautiful small things that happen in your life.
  6. Declutter & let go
Decluttering your home can be so liberating. If you take a closer look you will find a lot of things that you actually do not need and that are just crowding you in your space. So take a look and see if there are some things, such as clothes or books, old CDs that you are ready to let go of. The same goes for people in your life. In order to make more room for new things but also new inspiring people, you will have to let go of some. So I encourage you to take a closer look at your relationships to figure if they are still serving you or not. Why are your friends with that person? Do you feel hurt by them often? Do you feel like they are holding you back? If someone turns out to be more of an energy drainer, it might be time to reconsider this relationship. Make time for the people who love, motivate, encourage and inspire you, but most of all make you happy.
  7. Start a journal and document every day with one picture and one paragraph
Buy a beautiful journal, create a Pinterest wall or post your pictures and thoughts on Facebook or Instagram. For the next month, make this a habit. Take a look at the world around you and take pictures of things that were special to you that day. Then write a paragraph about the day you have had. Answer a question for yourself or talk about something you learned. And don’t forget to finish that little paragraph with something that you are grateful for in that moment. Because gratitude is one of the strongest practices to bring more happy feelings into your life. This will not only serve your wellbeing now, as journaling is a great way to be in the moment, but it will also bring you joy in a couple months or years from now when you review those pictures and the things you wrote.

There are many many more happiness hacks out there that might serve you better. So if you have some, I’d love to hear about them! But I would also love to hear how you’re getting on with the ones you found here!
