Books are a door to a new world. Books allow you to live many different lives and take you on journeys that you might never get to go on in real life. Books are a very special kind of magic!
Here is part two of my favourite book list. If you have missed part 1, you can check it out here.

Have a Little Faith, Mitch Albom

The secret to happiness…be satisfied and be grateful.

Mitch Albom

This was the second book that I read by this author and it also made this list, as it had a profound impact on me a couple of years ago when I read it. I think it was one of the very first books that I had read that talked about gratitude and happiness in one sentence and certainly supported my decision to get on the path I am on right now. I do strongly believe that gratitude is the most powerful practice there is to support you in leading a happy life! So if you haven’t explored this yet, I encourage you to do so!

Eat, Pray, Love, Elizabeth Gilbert

Happiness is the consequence of personal effort. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings. And once you have achieved a state of happiness, you must never become lax about maintaining it. You must make a mighty effort to keep swimming upward into that happiness forever, to stay afloat on top of it.

Elizabeth Gilbert

Happiness is what we make of it. It is a state of mind. And it is a constant work in progress. We will not always be happy. And that is okay. How else would we be able to appreciate the good times when they come around? It is about how much effort we put into finding time to do the things that bring us happiness. So don’t let yourself be a hostage of your own busyness or other people’s expectations. Instead make room for your happiness and get into the habit of being happy!

The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You’re Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are, Brené Brown

Authenticity is a collection of choices that we have to make every day. It’s about the choice to show up and be real. The choice to be honest. The choice to let our true selves be seen.

Brené Brown

Authenticity is not easy at times. Being your true self opens you up and it leaves you vulnerable. It allows people to judge you and make assumptions based on how you behave. And in each situation every single day we get to choose; we get to show up and be real. Though not always easy, it is liberating it is honest and above all we allow the world to see our beautiful and imperfect selves. This is one of the most beautiful gifts you can give to yourself and the world as well.

The Last Lecture, Randy Pausch

I remember reading this book, this touching story and will never forget the way it made me feel, reading someone’s words who only had limited time left. And again, this came up: gratitude. But in a little bit of a different context. Gratitude towards other human beings. It could also be called appreciation, love or compassion. It’s about how we treat other people, it’s about not judging them and it’s about understanding that the seemingly small act of appreciating someone else makes them feel incredible special!

The Secret Garden, Frances Hodgson Burnett

Everything is made out of Magic, leaves and trees, flowers and birds, badgers and foxes and squirrels and people. So it must be all around us.

Frances Hodgson Burnett

If we allow ourselves to take the time to slow down and just be, we will able to witness all the beauty and unique magic that surrounds us every single day. You will find it outside in nature, but you will also find it in the people that you spend your precious time with. Magic happens when you love…

And now it’s your turn! Share some of your favourite books or quotes! Tell me what you love about reading and why it is important to you.
